Wöbbel Castle, an example of Baroque architecture, rises in Wöbbel, a district of Schieder-Schwalenberg. This estate in Lippe, North Rhine-Westphalia, is today privately used.

History+

The origins of the current Wöbbel Castle date back to 1690, when the Lippe court official Lewin Moritz von Donop commissioned its construction. It was built on the site of a Renaissance predecessor that had been destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. The new castle was erected in the Dutch Classicism style. Around 1720, the original grand staircase was removed after a fatal accident.
