Wörlitz Castle, an example of early Classicism, is located in Saxony-Anhalt and is considered a pioneering building of this style in Germany. It was built for a princely couple and is characterized by its public accessibility from the outset, as well as well-preserved interior furnishings.

History+

Between 1769 and 1773, Wörlitz Castle was constructed under the direction of master builder Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff. It served as a residence for a young princely couple. Since its completion in the 18th century, the castle's rooms have been accessible to the public. The furnishings, including furniture from the Roentgen workshop and a ceramic collection from Wedgwood, reflect the prince's interests and travels. Progressive elements such as dumbwaiters and retractable doors were already integrated at that time.
