Wolfegg Castle

The current exterior of the castle was established in the late 16th century under Truchsess Jakob II von Waldburg and his wife Johanna. They commissioned a new building after a previous structure was destroyed by a chimney fire in 1578. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle suffered damage in 1646 when Swedish troops under General Wrangel plundered and set it on fire. Reconstruction only began in 1651 due to a lack of funds. Between 1691 and 1700, sculptor and stucco artist Balthasar Krimmer redesigned the state rooms. In the mid-18th century, parts of the interiors were redecorated in Rococo style.
