Wolfsburg Castle (Roisdorf)

The Wolfsburg, also known as Broicher Hof, is a former moated castle in the Bornheim district of Roisdorf (An der Wolfsburg) in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The founding of the moated castle presumably dates back to before the 15th century. In the 15th century, the castle was owned by the Wolff von Bergheimersdorf family and was extended with a transverse building in 1626. The castle presumably played a role as a refuge in the Cologne War in 1583. In 1721, the castle was owned by the von Waldbott-Bassenheim family, who had alterations made.
In the early 19th century, Baron von Carnap attempted to expand Roisdorf into a spa town, with the Wolfsburg serving as an excursion destination. Guests of the Wolfsburg included Ernst Moritz Arndt and the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In 1888, the local mayor Wilhelm Rech acquired the property, and it has remained in family ownership to this day.
Description+
The brick-built castle complex, a typical Rhenish moated castle with a main castle and an outer bailey (farmyard), presumably connected by a drawbridge, was surrounded by moats until the first half of the 19th century, which can only be guessed at today.
The iron anchors of the attic with the curved gable of the Rhenish Late Renaissance show the year "1626", which indicates that the castle received its current form at this time.
In 1721, when it was owned by the von Waldbott-Bassenheim family, the outer bailey received its Baroque style. The gate tower also dates from this period.
