Wolfsgarten Castle (Langen)

The construction of Wolfsgarten Castle took place between 1722 and 1724 under the direction of Landgrave Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt. The design was by master builder Louis Remy de la Fosse. The castle originally served as a hunting seat, fitting the parforce hunt introduced by Ernst Ludwig in 1709. After the abolition of this hunting method in 1768, the castle fell into disuse and disrepair. It was not until 1834, when demolition was already imminent, that Grand Duke Ludwig III initiated a comprehensive renovation and renewed use of the complex. At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle was rebuilt again and the park redesigned.
