Wolfsmünster Castle

Wolfsmünster Castle was built in 1584 by Philipp II von Thüngen or his father Albrecht. The portal bears the Thüngen coat of arms, framed by the year 1584. Above the lintel is the Wolfsmünster coat of arms with the wolf. Below it is the inscription: "This house stands in God's hand, Wolfsmünster it is named". The facade facing the Saale river, with its stepped gables, the surrounding curtain wall and the terraces, makes a picturesque impression. The Thüngens were able to hold the Wolfsmünster property, acquired from the Counts of Rieneck on March 24, 1550, for barely 120 years and had to cede it to the Juliusspital Würzburg on May 24, 1670, whose coat of arms with the 3 rings and the year 1803 can be seen on the outer gate. In the 19th century, Frankfurt city councilor W. Hanau bought the castle. In 1945, the city of Frankfurt bought the castle and established an orphanage there. In 1974, the home was closed again.
