In the municipality of Wrangelsburg in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, stands Wrangelsburg Castle, a historic manor house. Located at approximately 29 meters above sea level, it evolved from a Renaissance castle to a neo-Gothic manor house.

History+

The origins of the site, then called Vorwerk, date back to 1426 when it was granted as a fief to the von Neuenkirchen family. Around 1600, Christoph von Neuenkirchen had a four-winged Renaissance castle built on this spot, which was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. After the extinction of the Neuenkirchen line, Vorwerk came into the possession of the von Wrangel family in 1643 and was renamed Wrangelsburg in 1653. Carl Gustav Wrangel, Governor-General of Swedish Pomerania, commissioned the Erfurt master builder Casper Vogell from 1652 to build a Baroque castle on the ruins of the previous building. This was extended by two side wings.
