Wrodow Castle

Wrodow Castle dates back to the Wrodow estate, which was already mentioned in the 16th century. It is located in the district of the municipality of Mölln, in the Wrodow district (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), 15 km west of Neubrandenburg. Today, the castle houses, among other things, changing art exhibitions.

In 1860, the manor house in Wrodow was handed over to Ludwir Neumann junior. He had the castle-like expansion carried out. Until the end of the Second World War, the castle was used by the Neumann family. In 1943, a Rostock grammar school moved into the castle for almost two years with 80 girls and their teachers, after the school building in Rostock had been destroyed in a bombing raid. Between 1945 and 1990, the castle was not used. Thanks to the commitment of the local population, however, complete decay was prevented.

In 1993, the castle was sold to an artists' collective and subsequently renovated over a period of almost ten years. The Wrodow Castle Art Association ensured the increasing recognition of the castle. Rosa von Praunheim shot two films here. The Omnibus for Direct Democracy, still initiated by Joseph Beuys, visited the unusual art castle several times.
