Wülflingen Castle (Winterthur)

The castle's origins date back to 1644, when Hans Hartmann Escher vom Luchs, who had resided at Alt-Wülflingen Castle since 1634 and was lord of Wülflingen-Buch, commissioned its construction. In 1655, he moved into the new castle. After his death, his daughter Margareta von Meiss sold parts of the estate in 1677. Following her mother's death in 1682, Hans Hartmann Meiss became the sole owner of the lordship. He served as bailiff at Kyburg from 1711 to 1717. In 1730, a northern annex was added. In 1734, Brigadier Salomon Hirzel, Hartmann Meiss's son-in-law, took over the castle. After his death in 1755, his three sons inherited, of whom Colonel Salomon Hirzel sold the castle to Mayor Johannes Sulzer in 1767. A renovation took place in the same year. Anna-Maria Sulzer, the mayor's granddaughter, inherited the castle estate in 1796.
