Wurzach Castle

The construction of Wurzach Castle took place between 1723 and 1728 under Count Ernst Jakob Truchsess von Waldburg-Zeil-Wurzach. For over two centuries, it served as the residence of the Wurzach line of the noble family. In 1922, the Salvatorians acquired the estate and established a Latin school with a boarding house, which commenced operations in 1924. However, due to Nazi educational policies, the school was forced to stop admitting new students in 1937 and soon ceased operations entirely. From 1940 to 1945, Wurzach Castle was used as part of the Nazi camp system, housing three officer camps and an internment camp for civilians from the Channel Islands.
