Zedtlitz Castle

The origins of Zedtlitz can be traced back to 1190, when a moated castle was first mentioned. Heinrich and Otto von Zedlitz appeared as early owners in 1191. In 1303, another reference to a castrum in Zedtlitz is found. Ownership changed hands among various noble families, including the von Wolkaw, von Neustadt, and von Draschwitz. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was severely damaged by fire. In 1692, the von Gladebeck family acquired the ruin. Christiane Elisabeth von Gladebeck, née von Münchhausen, had the castle rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1706. After her death, the property passed to the Aus dem Winkel family through marriage and was later sold to Jacob Heinrich Reinhold. In 1836, his great-niece Julie von Metzradt gifted the castle to her son Jacob Friedrich Rudolph von Metzradt.
