Zernikow Castle

Zernikow was first documented in 1362. By the mid-17th century, the knightly family of Zernikow was heavily indebted, leading to a change of ownership. In 1737, Crown Prince Friedrich acquired the estate and gifted it in 1740 to his chamberlain, Michael Gabriel Fredersdorff. He had the manor house expanded in 1746 according to plans from Knobelsdorff's architectural office. A mulberry plantation was established in 1747, followed by the historically protected mulberry avenue in 1751. After Fredersdorff's death in 1758, his widow Caroline Maria Elisabeth Daum married Johann Freiherr von Labes. Their children were Amalie Karoline von Labes and Hans von Labes, who later built Burg Schlitz.
