In Saxony-Anhalt, Zörbig Castle combines the traces of an ancient fortress with the elegance of a later residential palace. The round keep, which has been preserved to this day, is striking.

History+

The origins of Zörbig Castle date back to the 7th century, when a fortress was built here. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 961. In the 12th century, it was owned by the Counts of Brehna. A central component of this early stone complex was a round keep, which has survived to this day. In the 16th century, this tower was extended with a brick upper section and received its pointed roof. In the 17th century, under Duke August of Saxe-Merseburg, the old fortress was converted into a residential palace.
