Zum Possen Castle, a historic structure on a hill near Oberspier in Thuringia, is now a cultural center.

History+

The castle's origins date back to 1670, when a hunting lodge named “Zum neuen Jagdhaus auf dem Oberspierschen Forste” was mentioned, suggesting an even older building. Between 1732 and 1738, Prince Günther XLIII of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen initiated renovations. The building, known as “Jagdschloss auf dem Vogelgesang” until 1737, was renamed “Zum Possen” after the completion of the work. Further expansions of the residential and farm buildings followed from 1760 to 1762.
