Zuschendorf Castle
The village was first mentioned in 1378. In 1553, a castle was built there, where the von Carlowitz and von Bünau families lived for many years. The baroque-style church was built in 1560 and has been a part of the castle since the Thirty Years' War. During the communist years of East Germany, a notorious antique dealer occupied the castle. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the rundown castle that should have been torn down was luckily spared. The premisis has been cleaned and now has an outstanding garden of hortensia, bonsai, ivy and camellia.
The Castle's opening times are from Tue-Fri: 10am-6pm, and on weekends and holidays 10AM-5PM (CET) (closed on Mondays). It's located 5 km from Pirna on a road to Liebstadt.
