Zweibrüggen Castle

The origins of Zweibrüggen Castle date back to the late 14th century, when a Leynart von Zweibrücken was first documented in 1397. In the mid-15th century, specifically 1457, Heinrich von Zweibrüggen owned the moated castle, whose lineage ended with him in 1486. Through marriage, the property passed to Dietrich von der Hagen, followed by his son-in-law Nikolaus von Mirbach. After his death in 1552, his sons Johann and Wilhelm divided the inheritance. The castle changed hands several times among various noble families, including the von Mirbach, von Voß, and von Eys. In 1786, the estate fell to Joseph Anton von Negri, who was married to the daughter of the then owner. The von Negri family owned the castle until 1993, before it passed into the possession of the city of Übach-Palenberg and was restored.
