Schlossbauerngut Castle

The first documented mention of the estate in Liefering dates back to 1463, when the Salzburg physician Leonhard Kurz was named as its owner. His will suggests that a building already existed before this time. After his death in 1495, ownership passed to his wife Ursula Lyfringin and later to their daughter Margareta, who was married to Sebastian Klaner. The estate changed hands multiple times, including Sebastian Höflinger, a chancellor and court registrar. In 1592, Captain Leonhard Ehrgott acquired the property. He had the building, by then referred to as a castle, rebuilt and gave it its present appearance by adding a west wing and a curtain wall. Ehrgott, who remained childless, bequeathed the property indirectly before it passed through sale to Georg Ludwig Grimming and other noble families. From 1685, Franz Georg Grembs, a city and court physician, was the owner. After his death in 1706, his children sold the estate to Adam Franz Gutrater. In 1758, Johann Marian Lürzer von Zehendthal acquired the castle, becoming its last noble owner. Subsequently, bourgeois owners followed, such as the brewer Lorenz Hierl. In 1833, Jakob Helminger bought the property at auction, and his descendants still inhabit it today. A storm in 1929 damaged the roof, which was subsequently restored in a slightly altered form. Since 1949, Schlossbauerngut has been a protected monument.
