Luisenburg Castle
On the Calviusberg near Blankenburg in the Harz region are the castle remains of Luisenburg. In 1728, Luisenburg was built as a pleasure palace, named after Duchess Christine Luise of Braunschweig. It was erected on the Calviusberg south of Blankenburg Castle and served as a viewpoint. The building was a single-story half-timbered structure with an octagonal hall surrounded by eight smaller rooms. In 1945, the castle was demolished due to dilapidation. Luisenburg is located in Blankenburg in the Harz district, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, at an approximate altitude of 347 m above sea level. Today, visitors can explore the remaining outer walls and the access stairs. The ruin is also a stamping point for the Harzer Wandernadel hiking badge.
