Linzenich Castle

Linzenich Castle is located in Bourheim, a district of Jülich in the Düren district, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The former moated castle consists of two brick building complexes, namely the main castle on its own island and the multi-winged outer bailey with a rectangular floor plan and turreted corners. The moats have been drained. During an air raid on November 16, 1944, the manor house, the tenant's house, and the northwest and southwest wings were destroyed. Outside the enclosing wall is a chapel.

The first owner mentioned was Adolf von Linzenich in 1255. In 1375, Johann von Harff acquired the property. Through inheritance, marriage, and sale, the complex came into the possession of Gottschalk and Johann von Harff, Daem (Adam) von Harff, Johann von Hatzfeld, Anna von Hatzfeld, Adolf von Gymnich, Count Adam von Schwarzenberg-Gimborn, and the siblings von Düssel. In 1724, the indebted court councilor Friedrich von Düssel sold the castle to Franz Egon Peter Henriquez von Streversdorff. His daughter married Baron Amandus von Geyr, owner of Müddersheim Castle, in 1731. In 1836, Josef Freiherr von Mylius acquired the property. This family is still the owner today.
