Lübz (Eldenburg) Castle
Eldenburg Castle was built after 1224 by the Brandenburg Margrave Otto IV. From 1328, the castle was owned by the Dukes of Mecklenburg. From 1352 to 1471, due to inheritance division, the castle was owned by the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Stargard and then again by the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In the 16th century, it was converted into a palace. Until 1634, the palace served as the dower house for Duchess Sophie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In 1637, the palace was damaged during the Thirty Years' War by plundering imperial troops under Wallenstein. In 1691, the palace was demolished, except for the administrative tower. In 1759, the administrative building was constructed over the vaults of the former palace. From 1994 to 1999, the entire complex on the castle hill was renovated.
