Michelstetten Castle
History+
An older fortified house was transformed into a Renaissance moated castle between 1530 and 1550 by the Lords of Michelstetten. Since a fire in 1893, the castle has been a ruin.
Architecture+
The mighty complex, built on an irregular polygonal ground plan with rounded corners, is surrounded by a moat - access is from the northeast via a bridge. The outer wall cylinder with mighty sloped buttresses, whose battlements are partially preserved, surrounds a wide polygonal inner courtyard, which is surrounded by formerly two-story arcades.
