The origins of Sonderberg Castle date back to 1561, when Canon Friedrich Sandholzer von Sonderberg began its construction. After 1778, a decline set in, leading to a partial demolition in 1890. In the 1980s, the remaining structure was restored.

The castle is located in Götzis in the Feldkirch district of Vorarlberg, Austria, at an elevation of approximately 416 meters above sea level.
