St. James's Abbey
The Schottenkloster in Würzburg, a former Benedictine abbey, was once a significant religious institution in Bavaria. Dedicated to Saint James the Elder, it is notable for its historical connection to Irish monks.

The monastery was founded between 1134 and 1142 in Würzburg. It was established as a Benedictine abbey and placed under the patronage of Saint James the Elder. Throughout its history, the monastery maintained good relations with local noble families. The abbey was dissolved during the secularization in 1803.

The monastery is situated in the city of Würzburg in the federal state of Bavaria, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 183 meters above sea level.

Following secularization, the monastery buildings were initially used as a garrison hospital, while the monastery church served as a military magazine and later as a garrison church. After being destroyed in World War II, the area was taken over by the Salesians of Don Bosco and rebuilt. The former Schottenkirche is now known as the Don-Bosco-Kirche.
