History+

Around 1120, the first Scottish Augustinian monastery was founded on this site, and its abbot's palace often served as a residence for the royal family. In 1210, William the Lion established a royal village nearby, which developed into modern-day Perth. An event was the looting of the monastery by followers of John Knox on June 27, 1559. The Coronation Stone, located on Moot Hill, was taken by King Edward I to Westminster Abbey in 1296.
