The Servite Monastery Bernburg, a historic establishment of the Servite Order, is located in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt. It was the only monastery in Bernburg and is notable for its position directly on the former city wall.
History+
The Servite Monastery Bernburg was likely founded around the year 1300, with its first documented mention dating from 1308. The Order of Servites, also known as Servants of Mary, was established in Florence in the 13th century and began to spread in Germany from 1299. The monastery in Bernburg was dedicated to Saint John. Throughout its more than 200-year existence, the monastery acquired only modest possessions, primarily consisting of land and monetary rents. With the introduction of the Reformation in Bernburg in 1526 and the associated prohibition of begging, the monastery lost its economic foundation and was dissolved by 1527.

The former monastery grounds are situated in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. At the time of its founding, it was located in the southwestern part of Neustadt Bernburg, directly adjacent to the then city wall.

Parts of the original monastery buildings are still preserved today. However, the former monastery church now exists only as a ruin.
