A 16th-century Tudor mansion, Sherborne New Castle is located in Dorset, England. It is known for its gardens, designed by landscape architects.

History+

The current castle, also known as Sherborne New Castle, received its name after the nearby old castle was destroyed in the Civil War in 1645 by parliamentary forces under General Fairfax. The gardens surrounding the estate were largely shaped in the early and mid-18th century by William, 5th Lord Digby, and his heirs Edward, 6th Lord Digby, and Henry, 7th Lord. A lake from 1753, designed by Lancelot Brown, separates the two castles. King George III visited the estate in 1789.
