Sizergh Castle is a historic castle complex in Cumbria, England. Originally built as a medieval fortress, it evolved into a manor house, known today for its architectural diversity and long family history.

History+

The origins of Sizergh Castle date back to the 12th century, when King Henry II granted the land to the Deincourts. Through a marriage in 1239, ownership passed to the Strickland family, who held it until its transfer to the National Trust in 1950 and still reside there today. The core of the complex is a Pele Tower, built in the 14th century, over 20 meters high with walls three meters thick. Around 1450, the Great Hall was added, followed by two more wings.
