The origins of Slot Zuylen date back to the 13th century, when the Lords van Suilen initiated its construction. In 1422, the complex was completely destroyed during the Hook and Cod Wars. Reconstruction began in 1510. It largely acquired its current appearance through the last major modifications in 1752.
