Solmser Castle (Butzbach)

The origins of Solmser Castle lie on the grounds of a former fortress that was located on the edge of Butzbach's old town. The town of Butzbach itself was first mentioned in documents in 773 and developed near the remains of a Roman fort at a traffic junction. In 1321, Philipp IV of Falkenstein was granted town rights for Butzbach and had fortifications erected. After the extinction of the Falkensteiners in 1418, Butzbach came into the possession of the Lords of Eppstein, who further divided the property. In the 15th century, the Counts of Solms acquired parts of the estate. Around 1462, a large granary was built, which came into the possession of the Solms counts in 1479.
