Summer palace (Greiz)

The Summer Palace in Greiz is a small castle in the Greiz Castle Park. It is owned by the Thuringian Castles and Gardens Foundation.

The Summer Palace was the summer residence of the Princes of Reuss Elder Line. It was built in 1769 (according to other sources between 1779 and 1800) in the late Baroque-early Neoclassical style and today houses the state book and copperplate engraving collection with Satiricum, as well as changing exhibitions. The surrounding English-style landscape park was created in its current form in 1878 under Eduard Petzold and Rudolph Reinecke and stretches along the valley of the White Elster to the outskirts of Greiz. In the park there is a rotunda, which has been a war memorial since 1926.
