St. Johannis

The building was constructed around 1390/1410 according to plans by Hans von Burghausen. It originally served as the monastery church of the Order of St. John. After secularization in 1803, the edifice was rededicated as a Roman Catholic parish church. The original furnishings were significantly reduced over the centuries, but a crescent moon Madonna from the early 18th century has been preserved to this day. The organ from 1885 was expanded in 1993.

St. Johannis is located at Burggasse 1 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a small town in the Ansbach district in Middle Franconia, Bavaria. The church is registered as a monument in the Bavarian List of Monuments under the monument number D-5-71-193-55 and belongs to the Ansbach Deanery of the Archdiocese of Bamberg.

The structure is a three-aisled hall church with a steep gabled roof. A hexagonal roof turret with an onion dome crowns the western gable. On the exterior north wall, stone statues of John the Baptist and Saint Christopher can be seen. Inside, a wooden beam ceiling spans the space, supported by four columns.
