St. Johannis Church

The former monastery church of the Knights Hospitaller has been the Roman Catholic, listed parish church of St. Johannis since 1803. It is located at Burggasse 1 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a small town in the district of Ansbach (Middle Franconia, Bavaria).

The three-nave hall church, covered with a steep gable roof, was built around 1390/1410 according to a design by Hans von Burghausen. A hexagonal roof turret, covered with an onion dome, rises in front of the west gable. On the north wall are the stone statues of John the Baptist and Saint Christopher. The interior is spanned by a wooden beam ceiling, supported by four columns. The original church furnishings have been greatly reduced. A Madonna on a crescent moon, created around 1730/40, has been preserved. The organ was built in 1885 with 23 registers, two manuals and pedal by G. F. Steinmeyer & Co. and expanded by 3 registers in 1993.
