St. Josef

The origins of St. Josef parish date back to 1921. Prior to this, a temporary church served the faithful from 1905, particularly students from the nearby school. The current church building was constructed between 1936 and 1938 according to the designs of architect Thomas Wechs. Its design draws inspiration from early medieval sacred buildings in Upper Italy, lending the structure a distinctive aesthetic. The solemn consecration took place in 1936 by Bishop Joseph Kumpfmüller. A comprehensive redesign and renovation in 1981 shaped the church's appearance, overseen by architect Fritz Wegmann, sculptor Michael Veit, and church painter Hubert Distler.

St. Josef Cathedral is situated in the Reutin district of the city of Lindau on Lake Constance, within the Lindau (Bodensee) district in Bavaria, Germany.

Today, St. Josef functions as a Roman Catholic parish church and is an active center of community life. The structure is protected as a historical monument in Bavaria, attesting to its historical and architectural relevance. The basilica features a central nave, two side aisles, a semicircular apse to the east, and a campanile connected to the northern side aisle. An organ from 1978 enhances the church services.
