Stacherburg Castle

The Stacherburg is located in Golzheim, municipality of Merzenich in the district of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Stach von Goltzheim family resided at Stacherburg since 1375. Originally, the family came from the farm settlement of Hüppelheim, located southwest of Golzheim, which had already disappeared in the Middle Ages. The first known lord of Stacherburg was Johann Stach, who is mentioned in documents in 1377.

After inheritance disputes, Hans Stach von Golzheim became the owner of the lowland castle in 1609. He leased the estate. In 1685, the property was sold to the notary Dr. Tillmann Grevenbroich from Cologne. In the first half of the 18th century, ownership passed to Johann Arnold Leunenschloß. Through the Hoffsümmer, Stupp, and Diefenthal families, the castle came into the possession of former rally driver Hans Schnock, who operates the company DES-Tuning & Classic Team on the premises. Primarily, vintage cars are restored.

The Stacherburg is a four-winged brick farmstead. The two-story, transversely rectangular manor house has a high hip roof. It was built in 1768 by Johann Arnold Leunenschloß. The farm buildings date from the same period. The gate tower located on Buirer Straße is interesting. The small brick tower has a mansard roof.
