Stadionsche Schloss in Bönnigheim, located in the Ludwigsburg district, is a Rococo building. It stands centrally in the town and now houses a museum.

History+

The origins of the current castle date back to 1560, when the Liebensteiner Schloss was built on this site. This served as the residence for the Lords of Liebenstein within the Ganerbschaft Bönnigheim. In 1717, Lothar Franz von Schönborn, Elector of Mainz, transferred the Liebenstein properties to Johann Philipp von Stadion. His son, Anton Heinrich Friedrich von Stadion, inherited the estates in 1742 and ended the Ganerbschaft by acquiring Bönnigheim. In 1753, he had the old Liebensteiner Schloss demolished and commissioned Anselm Franz von Ritter zu Groenesteyn to design a new building in the French style, which was completed in 1756. The castle served as a country residence for the Stadion family. After the pledge expired, Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg acquired the castle in 1785.
