Town Fortification Bergheim

The City Wall can be visited

The Bergheim town fortification completely encloses the town of Bergheim in Upper Alsace. With its double wall and numerous towers.

History+

The origins of the Bergheim town fortification date back to the 14th century, when the double town wall with its numerous defensive towers and the western Obertor as the main access was constructed. In the 16th century, the complex underwent extensive renovation to adapt its defensive standards to the conditions of the time. The once existing eastern Untertor is no longer preserved today.
