Bruck an der Leitha City Wall
The small town of Bruck an der Leitha was first mentioned in 1074 as "Aschirichesprucca", roughly translated as "Aschirich's Bridge". The planned construction of the market square, the ring wall with its defensive towers, the four city gates and the city moat took place around 1200, but it is assumed that a walled settlement already existed here around the turn of the millennium.
In 1239, Bruck an der Leitha was first mentioned as a city. The city wall with its defensive towers and the city moat is today one of the best-preserved defensive structures in Eastern Austria. They enclose the city center, in the middle of which stands the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity with its unique church tower, the approximately 1000-year-old former city tower.
