The Coesfeld city fortifications, once a defense system, are now only partially preserved. The Walkenbrückentor is the last of the original six city gates. Together with the Pulverturm, it shows the defensive strength of the city in North Rhine-Westphalia.

History+

The original Coesfeld city fortifications included a city wall and six city gates. The Walkenbrückentor suffered damage during World War II. It was restored to its external appearance after the war. Today, it houses the city museum, which reopened in 2012 after renovation and redesign.
