Town Fortification Dinkelsbühl - Segringer Gate

The Segringer Tor city fortification is a component of Dinkelsbühl's city defenses. As one of the four large gates, it shapes the cityscape of this town in Bavaria.

The origins of Dinkelsbühl's fortifications date back to the early 13th century, when a first, almost circular wall was erected, whose course is still recognizable in today's city plan. An expansion of the fortification ring began in 1372 to accommodate the growing urban area. These works continued until the Thirty Years' War, resulting in a system with once 55 towers and gates. The Segringer Tor, as the western city gate, was rebuilt between 1655 and 1660 and received its onion dome with lantern in 1749.
