Town Fortification Friedland-Anklamer Gate

The Anklam Gate, formerly the Stone Gate, is one of the gates of the defensive system that surrounded the city of Friedland in Mecklenburg.

The building served to protect the northern access to the city and was the first of three city gates to be built as part of the medieval fortifications. The other two gates are the Neubrandenburg Gate (formerly Castle Gate) and the Treptow Gate, which was demolished in 1802.

The structure is a five-story Gothic brick building from the early 14th century. It is a square gate tower with a stepped gable above a pointed arch passage and has two round corner towers with conical spires on both sides. The substructure is made of fieldstones and the superstructure of bricks. The building was once the main gate of a gate castle with an outer gate and curtain walls. The Anklam Gate was restored in 1995 and is now one of Friedland's attractions.
