Town Fortification Friedland-Neubrandenburger Gate

The Neubrandenburg Gate (formerly Burgtor) is one of the gates of the defensive system that surrounded the city of Friedland. It is the best-preserved and largest gate of Friedland's city fortifications. The other two gates of the former fortification are the Anklam Gate (formerly Steintor) and the Treptow Gate, which was demolished in 1802.

The building is a representative, richly structured late Gothic brick building from the second half of the 15th century. It is a square, three-story structure with a pointed-arch passage and has four octagonal corner towers with massive conical spires. The city and field sides are adorned with blind arches and stepped gables. Worth seeing in the building are the guardroom with a fireplace, the latrine bay, as well as the battlements and the battle bay. Until its closure by building authorities in 1984, the city museum of Friedland was located in the gate. Since then, the gate has been closed to visitors and can no longer be viewed.

The structure originally functioned as the gate of a castle, which no longer exists. The building served to protect the southwestern access to the city.
