The Neubrandenburger Tor in Friedland is an example of medieval urban fortifications in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As the best-preserved and largest of the former city gates, it features late Gothic brick architecture.

History+

The origins of the Neubrandenburger Tor date back to the second half of the 15th century. It was constructed as part of the defensive system surrounding the city of Friedland and originally served as the gate to a no longer existing castle. Its primary function was to protect the southwestern access to the city. Of the three original gates of the city's fortifications – the Neubrandenburger Tor, the Anklamer Tor, and the Treptower Tor, which was demolished in 1802 – it is now the best preserved.
