Luckau Town Fortification

The origins of the town wall date back to the 13th and 14th centuries, with large sections preserved to this day. The Red Tower, whose construction began in the late 13th or early 14th century, was raised several times and received its current Welsch cap in 1871. This round brick tower, with a base diameter of eight meters and a wall thickness of 2.50 meters, once served as a defensive tower, as indicated by its elevated entrance at 6.90 meters. A commemorative plaque on the tower recalls the Battle of June 4, 1813, where Prussian and Russian allies defeated French troops, halting their advance on Berlin. Between 1992 and 1993, the tower underwent renovation.
