City Wall Neubrandenburg-Stargarder Gate
The Stargard Gate in Neubrandenburg was built in the first half of the 14th century in the style of North German Brick Gothic. The construction period of the main gate was determined to be the year 1311 based on dendrochronological investigations. From the city side, the main gate displays nine terracotta figures, called adorants, with open arms. The New Gate also bears similar ornamentation with eight figures. Nothing is known about the symbolic meaning and age of these figures.
The name "Stargard Gate" indicates the direction of the main road leading out of the city. It leads south towards the former Stargard (today Burg Stargard). In old writings, the gate is occasionally also referred to as the Wendish Gate.
