Town Fortification Nördlingen-Deininger Gate

The construction of the Nördlingen city wall, which includes the Deininger Gate, began in 1327 at the behest of Louis the Bavarian. It replaced an older defensive rampart, the course of which is still visible today along some old town streets. Between 1536 and 1613, alterations were made, including the redesign of four gates and two towers, as well as the construction of additional towers and bulwarks. During the Thirty Years' War, specifically in 1634, the fortification withstood a siege by imperial troops that preceded the Battle of Nördlingen.
