The Frauentor in Nuremberg is a part of the city fortifications and once served as the main access point in the southeast of the city. It is known for its round tower, which, as one of the four main towers of the Nuremberg city wall, shapes the cityscape.

History+

The existence of the Frauentor is documented at least since 1386, as payments to the gatekeeper were first recorded in that year. It replaced an older gate that had to make way for the construction of the Mauthalle in 1498.
