Town Fortification Ober-Ingelheim-Ohrenbrücker Gate

The local fortification of Ober-Ingelheim, which included the Ohrenbrücker Tor, was built in the 14th and 15th centuries, with older defensive structures already existing from the 12th century. It protected the possessions of noble families. The Ohrenbrücker Tor, first mentioned in the 13th century, provided access towards Westerberg across the then-marshy Selz river. In 1964, the structure underwent renovations, during which the archway was reconstructed based on the model of the Uffhubtor. Until 1906, buildings of the Engelthal Nunnery stood above the gate, which later had to make way for new road construction.
