Town Fortification Rüthen-Hachtor

The Rüthen fortification was built in the 14th century and originally comprised a town wall approximately 3000 meters long, connecting four town gates and eleven towers. This defensive structure was essential for protecting the town's inhabitants from conflicts such as the Soest Feud, the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, and attacks by robber knights. The walls reached a width of 1.20 to 1.80 meters and a height of 3.00 to 3.50 meters, tapering upwards and featuring battlements with loopholes and observation points.
