The Old Town Hall - A Jewel of Urban History+
From the Beginnings to the the 19th Century+

After receiving town rights in 1320, the city's fortifications were built.

The first town hall was located on theMarktplatz (market square) and was mentioned in documents as early as 1340. It was a simple wooden building, which was replaced by a stone building in 1410.

This building served as the seat of the city council and the court for centuries. It was expanded and rebuilt several times, most notably after the great city fire of 1689, which largely destroyed the city.

In the 18th century, the town hall received its baroque facade, which still characterizes its appearance today. The magnificent portal and the ornate gables are examples of the craftsmanship of that time.

The 19th and 20th Centuries - Change and Preservation+

In the 19th century, the town hall lost its function as the sole administrative center. New administrative buildings were built, and the town hall was increasingly used for representative purposes.

During the Second World War, the town hall was severely damaged, but it was rebuilt true to the original in the post-war years. The reconstruction was a symbol of the city's will to survive and its commitment to its history.

In the 1960s and 70s, extensive renovation work was carried out to preserve the building for future generations. The interior was modernized, but care was taken to preserve the historical substance.

Today - A Living Monument+

Today, the Old Town Hall is a living monument to the city's history. It houses the city archives, a museum, and is used for various events.

The museum offers visitors insights into the city's past, from its founding to the present day. Exhibits include historical documents, artifacts, and interactive displays.

The representative rooms of the town hall are used for weddings, receptions, and cultural events. The historic ambience provides a unique setting for these occasions.

The Old Town Hall is not only a tourist attraction but also a place where citizens can experience and celebrate their history. It is a symbol of the city's identity and its continuous development.
