The Weißenburg town fortification encloses the historic core of the city in Bavaria. Almost completely preserved, it shapes the cityscape.

History+

The Weißenburg town fortification is characterized by the Ellinger Gate. This gate, the northernmost access to the old town, dates in its main tower from the 14th century. Around 1510, it was expanded with an outwork and two smaller towers, which were fitted with dome-shaped caps. In 1662, another floor was added to the main tower.
