The city palace was created in 1621 by combining the Buttlar free house and the Rechberg free house by Margrave Joachim Ernst of Brandenburg-Ansbach to form the Oberamtshaus, later the city palace of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach. Major renovations took place in 1702 and 1761. Since 1974, it has served as the town hall.
