The Steinsches Schloss in Barchfeld, located in the Wartburg district in Thuringia, is a historic structure built on the remains of a former moated castle. It bears witness to the long history of the region and the influential Stein-Liebenstein zu Barchfeld family.

History+

The origins of the Steinsches Schloss date back to 1387, when a moated castle was first mentioned in documents. On this site, where a solid residential building of the Stein family already stood, Georg Ernst von Stein had the current castle built between 1571 and 1581. The Stein-Liebenstein zu Barchfeld family owned the village until 1387 as a fief of the Counts of Henneberg and held sole jurisdiction there.
